I am not a Fredericksburg native, but anyone who has ever lived in or even visited Fredericksburg wishes they were. It’s a one of a kind place that attracts over 1 million visitors annually from all over the world. So this got me thinking about love, yes love, and how as a child when we loved something or someone we would write out the name, this case being a place, and use the first letter to describe it. Then I was hit by another thought – Fredericksburg is so long! But if I love it the way I say I do then this should be easy… right?
F. F is definitely for fun. This place has it all. The German “flair” and wineries. You can also find the best “Fried” pickles at The Brewery located on Main Street. See what I did there? And sample some of the fresh brew. This is no easy feat but it is my favorite place.
R. R is for The Rockbox Theater. With its traditional seating, it has 392 indoor seats and provides live rock and roll every weekend with professional entertainers. From November 20th to December 27th you can catch the Christmas Show. Tis’ the season so go check out this small community theater!
E. Enchanted Rock State Park definitely takes the “E” There are plenty of activities to do at Enchanted Rock. Bird watching, hiking, rock climbing, backpacking and camping are just a few. You can also enjoy a picnic or camp out to stargaze. Entrance fees are just $6 per day so come check this site out and take home a souvenir from the Texas State Park Store.
D. Dance Hall because everyone loves a place to get down. And while Luckenbach is 100 years removed from Fredericksburg it’s still a popular destination. It is just 10 miles out of town and is made up of nothing. Really nothing. Just a small gathering of wooden shacks that are a Dance Hall, a bar/general store/post office, and a blacksmith shop. But it is the best place to hear guitar pickers, fiddle players and old stories from one of the many regulars that hang around under the canopy of trees.
E. Eating, because who doesn’t heart food! There are over 75 restaurants to satisfy anyone’s appetite. If you have strong feelings for food like a true Texan this is definitely your place to be. And what German town doesn’t have German food? You can get all the fixings at Der Lindenbaum, Otto’s German Bistro, Altdorf Biergarten and Auslander’s while you listen to live music and people watch. And of course, you have to stop at the Old German Bakery and Restaurant for breakfast or lunch for potato pancakes, schnitzel, and bratwurst in a historical environment. There is also Hondo’s On Main where you can enjoy a burger and BBQ with indoor and outdoor seating, a full bar and live music. I’m going to stop here because it’s making me hungry and the list can go on forever, but do come and try some of these places, you will be smitten!
R. Roasted Raspberry Chipotle Sauce. Yes, that is correct. Because this sauce is the number 1 specialty condiment sold in Texas made by the one and only Das Peach Haus. Das Peach Haus sells almost 200 varieties of sauces, jam, preserves, and jellies made with local produce. Stop by, tastings are encouraged!
I. Inviting. Fredericksburg is so inviting that the signs leading east and west along Main Street spell out ALL WELCOME and COME BACK. The founding fathers were very hospitable. And throughout all of the town, you can find a bed and breakfast to enjoy a weekend at. You might even want to stay at the Fredericksburg Inn and Suites. It is one block from Main Street and has two heated pools and waterfalls. Tempting right? Something more romantic or maybe homier, how about a night at the Chardonnay Hideaway, it even has a Jacuzzi!
C. Christmas Pyramid. The town has a custom built 26′, 5 tiered rotating Christmas Pyramid displayed in Marktplatz on Main Street during the holidays. The pyramid is illuminated the day after Thanksgiving and most of the town gathers to watch. It is a lovely sight and good reason to bring the family and a camera.
K. One of a Kind. I say this over and over. The people and food, the whole town, is one of a kind and if you have already visited then you know. If you haven’t then take my word for it and go, go now, like this weekend, because there is never a bad time to go, something is always going on and there is always something to eat! So go, take everyone, because it truly is a one of a kind place that will steal your heart.
S. Shopping! That was easy. You CAN and WILL find everything here. Endless candy at the Lone Star Candy Bar. Secret treasures at the Antique Mall of Fredericksburg, or things at Things In A Room. If you have a baby or know someone having a baby stop at Natural Baby. For your fur baby stop at Dogologie. There is literally something for everyone!
B. Beer. Because the Fredericksburg Brewery is one of my favorite places and not just for the beer but for their fried pickles and blackened chicken salad. But yes their beer whether its a NOT So Dumb Blonde Ale or an Oktoberfest. This is definitely a place where everything is made of the highest quality. Grab some friends and family and spend some quality time here!
U. Upbeat! The town is definitely just this. There are a handful of places where you can sit and sip to see live music. Auslander, Crossroads Saloon And Steakhouse, Fiesta Winery 290, Hilltop Café and Hondo’s on Main are just a few. Most are located on Main Street where you can grab a drink with some family and friends to relax.
R. Real estate. Because whether you are a first time home, ranch or commercial property buyer you should explore the available properties in Fredericksburg, Texas and Gillespie County. Re/Max Town and Country of Fredericksburg can provide you with contacts to the best realtors and real estate professionals in our area.
G. Gourmet Market and Cellar at Vaudeville. Art, food, wine and a European atmosphere! This is the perfect place to grab a lunch or end your day with a romantic dinner. They offer Bistro, V Supper Club, Market & Cellar, and a Wine Club all in one stop on Main. If anything it’s at least worth a peak with all of its art.
So I have gone on and on about this wonderful unique town. What are you waiting for? Don’t just take my word, come see for yourself!
